The 2016 Mazda 3 Sport: It's time to have fun
The Mazda 3 Sport has it all: sportiness, style, convenience, not to mention extraordinary efficiency. The three trims offered with the 2016 Mazda 3 Sport are the GS, GX and GT. The GS has a starting price of $19,350, while the top of the line GT model starts at $26,350. All variants are extremely well equipped and come with outstanding technology, offering drivers a better experience at the wheel than any other model in the category.
Buyers get to choose between two different engines. The GS and the GX are both equipped with a 2.0 L DOHC 16-valve four cylinder engine, with an output of 150 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque. Those looking for more power should opt for the GT version with its 2.5 L DOHC 16-valve four cylinder that boasts a healthy 184 hp of power and 185 lb-ft of torque.
All versions of the Mazda 3 Sport can be outfitted with a SKYACTIV-MT six speed manual transmission or a SKYACTIV-Drive six speed automatic transmission. Exclusively on the GT, the six speed automatic gearbox comes with SPORT mode, drive selection switch and paddle shifters. Fuel consumption is great, with 8.2 L/100 km city and 5.9 L/100 km highway on GS and GX models equipped with the manual transmission.
An impressive style for the 2016 Mazda 3 Sport
On the outside, the Mazda 3 Sport is stylish with fluid lines and an aggressive front end. Body-colored door handles, rear roof spoiler and power-operated door mirrors come as standard equipment on all versions, as do halogen headlights.
On the GT version, the headlights are Bi-Xenon HID with LED signature. In the rear, the Mazda 3 Sport features a dual sport exhaust with a bright finish. Buyers who choose the GT variant will get a pair of fog lights and LED taillights. Moreover, the Technology package on the GT model comes with great exterior features, like the active air shutter, high Beam control system (HBC) and adaptive front lighting system (AFS) with automatic headlight leveling.
Inside the cabin, the Mazda 3 Sport is refined with standard air conditioning, steering-wheel-mounted cruise controls, power windows with driver’s one-touch up and down feature and timer and 60/40-split fold-down rear seatback.
This last feature enables the Mazda 3 Sport to haul just about anything, with a great cargo capacity of 572 L when the seats are up and 1,334 L when they are down. Buyers who choose the GT variant along with the Luxury package get a great 9-speaker premium Bose audio system, center console with leather-like lid, leather-trimmed upholstery and dual zone climate control, among other premium features.
